AW 101: Overview of Costing Principles & Internal Controls

Description

This course provides the learner with an overview of key costing principles and policies that apply to the financial administration of sponsored funds.

After completing this course, attendees should:

  • Understand uniform guidance and how it applies to sponsored funds
  • Understand the difference the between direct and indirect costs
  • Understand prohibited and unallowable costs
  • Understand the university’s internal controls and how to process an exception
  • Understand cost-sharing
  • Understand the components that make up Facilities and Administrative (F&A) costs
  • Understand the different activity types for F&A rates
  • Understand the difference between Modified Total Direct Costs (MTDC) and Total Direct Costs (TDC)
  • Be able to calculate overhead when re-budgeting between excluded and included categories
