Emily Hixson Shepherd

Emily Hixson Shepherd is the Business Director for the Department of Surgery. She has been in the Department of Surgery since coming to Washington University in 2008. She enjoys managing the Surgery Gifts and Grants team and working in all aspects of research administration. Before coming to WU, she began her career in research administration at the University of Utah, first in Accounts Payable in 1998 and then in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2000. While in Ob/Gyn, she helped to establish the Obstetrics & Gynecology Research Network (OGRN), an administrative core supporting all investigators in the department. St. Louis has always been home, even when 1300 miles away. When the opportunity to come to WU arose, she was happy to return home. She received an undergraduate degree in Anthropology from the University of Missouri-St. Louis and has a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Utah. In her spare time, she enjoys time with her family, reading, and knitting.
